AVIF to PNG Converter

Free, with no daily limit. Turn an AVIF into a PNG in this browser. PNG keeps see-through areas that a JPG would paint over. The AVIF is not uploaded.

Or paste a picture. The file is not uploaded. On an iPhone, Choose photos may hand you a JPEG instead of the original HEIC. This page accepts that too.

Each file is fitted on its own. JPG and WebP try a lower quality first. PNG is made smaller, because it has no quality step.

How to convert

  1. 1. Add the AVIF

Drop the file or choose it. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari decode AVIF themselves. This page does not add a second decoder.

  2. 2. Leave PNG selected

PNG is already chosen and does not use the JPG quality slider. Set a max width if the PNG would be huge.

  3. 3. Download the PNG

One file downloads as a PNG. Several become a ZIP. Expect a larger file than the AVIF: PNG is storing the decoded pixels.

Questions

Why is the PNG bigger than the AVIF?

AVIF compresses the picture. PNG keeps the pixels without that loss. That helps editing and logos. Use AVIF to JPG when you want a smaller photo to send.

Does the PNG keep transparency?

Yes, when the AVIF has an alpha channel. Switching the output to JPG composites those pixels onto the background color.

What if this browser cannot read the AVIF?

The row says so. Export a PNG or JPG from the app that created the AVIF, then convert that file. Very new or unusual AVIF files are the ones that fail.

Is the AVIF uploaded to make the PNG?

No. The browser decodes it here. There is no conversion API on this site.
