Compress a JPG to 20 KB

Free, with no daily limit. Shrink a JPG to under 20 KB on this device. Some exam boards, photo ID forms, and older government portals still publish that limit. The photo stays here while it is squeezed.

Or paste a picture. The file is not uploaded. On an iPhone, Choose photos may hand you a JPEG instead of the original HEIC. This page accepts that too.

Each file is fitted on its own. JPG and WebP try a lower quality first. PNG is made smaller, because it has no quality step.

JPG and PNG can keep camera details. WebP cannot keep the original details. The picture is saved right-side up.

How to convert

  1. 1. Add a JPG that is already a headshot

A full-resolution camera photo rarely looks acceptable at 20 KB. A photo that is already close to passport size has a much better chance. The target box starts at 20.

  2. 2. Let the page reduce quality, then pixels

JPG quality falls first. If that is not enough, the width and height come down. PNG is the wrong output for this cap. Leave JPG selected.

  3. 3. Read the result before you upload it anywhere

The row shows the byte size. If the face is no longer recognizable, keep the original and use a form that allows 50 KB or 200 KB instead. Those pages start at those caps.

Questions

Why does 20 KB look bad?

Twenty kilobytes is a very small budget for a photograph. The page can hit the number. It cannot promise a print-quality face. That is a limit of the file size, not of the browser.

Is the photo uploaded to reach 20 KB?

No. Each attempt is local. The header stays at 0 bytes uploaded.

What if the form said 20 KB and also 200 by 230 pixels?

Set max width and height to those pixels, leave the 20 KB target on, and convert. Hitting both is easier than hitting 20 KB at a large size.

Can I do a PNG or a HEIC on this page?

This page accepts JPG. Convert a HEIC on HEIC to JPG first, or a PNG on PNG to JPG. Then bring that JPG here.
