Compress a JPG to 50 KB

Free, with no daily limit. Shrink a JPG until it is under 50 KB on this device. Job forms, visa portals, and school uploads often reject anything larger. The photo is not uploaded to get there.

Or paste a picture. The file is not uploaded. On an iPhone, Choose photos may hand you a JPEG instead of the original HEIC. This page accepts that too.

Each file is fitted on its own. JPG and WebP try a lower quality first. PNG is made smaller, because it has no quality step.

How to convert

  1. 1. Add the JPG

Drop the photo. Fit under a file size is already on, and the box already says 50. Change the number if the form asked for a different cap.

  2. 2. Convert

Quality drops first. If the photo is still over 50 KB, the page makes the picture smaller and tries again. A phone screenshot of a form is easier to fit than a full camera original.

  3. 3. Check the row

The row shows the real size. If it is still over the target, the note says this is as small as the page will go. Cropping the photo before you start, on the device that took it, is the next step.

Questions

Will every photo fit in 50 KB?

A headshot usually will. A 4000 pixel vacation photo may have to shrink a lot, and it will look softer. The page will not invent detail to keep the frame large and the file tiny.

Is 50 KB the same as 50 KB on the form?

The target is 50 times 1024 bytes, and the encoder aims a little under that so a portal that counts strictly still accepts it. The row shows the exact byte size.

Does compressing to 50 KB upload the photo?

No. The attempts happen in this browser. A form you submit later is a different site. This page never sees that submission.

The form also wants a visa size. What then?

Resize the photo on Resize an image for a visa photo or the passport page first, then come back here if the file is still over 50 KB. Doing both at once is possible with the size fields, but the dedicated pages start at the right numbers.
