HEIC to WebP Converter

Free, with no daily limit. Turn an iPhone HEIC photo into a WebP on this device. WebP is the usual pick when a photo should stay sharp and weigh less on a web page than a JPG.

Or paste a picture. The file is not uploaded. On an iPhone, Choose photos may hand you a JPEG instead of the original HEIC. This page accepts that too.

Used for JPG and WebP. PNG does not use this slider. 85 is the starting point.

Each file is fitted on its own. JPG and WebP try a lower quality first. PNG is made smaller, because it has no quality step.

JPG and PNG can keep camera details. WebP cannot keep the original details. The picture is saved right-side up.

How to convert

  1. 1. Add the HEIC photos

Drop them, paste, or use Choose photos. If iOS already handed over a JPEG, this page accepts that JPEG and can still save it as WebP.

  2. 2. Leave WebP selected

WebP starts selected at quality 85. Lower it when the file still needs to shrink. PNG is there if a tool you use cannot open WebP.

  3. 3. Download the WebP

One photo downloads as a WebP. Several download in a ZIP built on this device. Location is removed unless you change Metadata to Keep.

Questions

Why WebP instead of JPG for a HEIC?

A HEIC is already a modern photo. JPG is what older mail and office apps expect. WebP is what a current browser expects, and it is often smaller than the JPG of the same picture. Keep the HEIC if you still need the camera original.

Does HEIC to WebP upload the photo?

No. Decoding and saving happen in this browser. The header should stay at 0 bytes uploaded.

Will see-through areas survive?

Yes, when the decoded HEIC has them. JPG would paint them onto a background color. Stay on WebP, or switch to PNG, if those areas matter.

Can every phone open the WebP?

Current browsers can. Some older desktop apps and some print shops still ask for JPG. Use HEIC to JPG for that hand-off.
