PNG to JPG Converter

PNG files of screenshots and graphics are often larger than they need to be for a form, a chat, or an email. This converts them to JPG locally, with a background color behind any transparency.

Drop images or a folder

Or paste with Ctrl or Command V. Nothing is uploaded. Choose photos opens the iPhone photo library, which may hand over HEIC or a JPEG it already converted.

Options · quality 85 · strip GPS

Used for JPG and WebP. PNG stays lossless. Default is 85.

Metadata

JPG and PNG can keep camera tags. WebP is re-encoded without the original metadata container. Re-encoding sets orientation to upright.

How to convert

  1. 1. Add PNG files

Drop one PNG, a selection, or a folder. The queue lists every file with an estimated JPG size before you commit.

  2. 2. Choose quality and background

85 is the default quality. Transparent pixels are drawn over the background color, white unless you change it. Resize if the pixel dimensions are the real reason the file is large.

  3. 3. Download the JPG

A single PNG becomes a single JPG download. A batch becomes a ZIP. The row then shows the real size and the percent smaller or larger.

Questions

What happens to transparent pixels?

JPG cannot store transparency. Those pixels are blended onto the background color in Options. White is the default. A logo meant for a colored page should use that color, or stay PNG.

Does PNG to JPG upload the image?

No. The browser draws the PNG and encodes a JPG in a worker. The upload indicator on this page should stay at 0 bytes. The privacy page shows the DevTools check.

Why would the JPG be larger than the PNG?

A flat screenshot or a small icon can be tiny as PNG and larger as JPG. Photos and noisy images usually go the other way. Read the result on the row; the estimate is only a guide.

Will text in a screenshot stay sharp?

JPG blurs hard edges. For a UI screenshot you still need to read, prefer a higher quality or keep the PNG and use the compressor only if it actually shrinks. This page does not claim a lossless JPG.

Is there a five-file cap?

No. Other sites ration free conversions. This one does not. Memory is the practical limit, and files over about 500 MB get a warning rather than a block.

Can I strip location data from a PNG?

Yes. Some PNGs carry EXIF, including GPS. The default removes GPS. Keep writes it into the JPG when we can read it. Strip all leaves the JPG without those tags.
