Image Compressor

Re-encode a JPG, PNG, or WebP on this device. Quality starts at 85. You see an estimated size before converting and the actual size, with percent saved, after. PNG often does not shrink unless you change the format or the dimensions.

Drop images or a folder

Or paste with Ctrl or Command V. Nothing is uploaded. Choose photos opens the iPhone photo library, which may hand over HEIC or a JPEG it already converted.

Options · quality 85 · strip GPS

Used for JPG and WebP. PNG stays lossless. Default is 85.

Resize
Metadata

JPG and PNG can keep camera tags. WebP is re-encoded without the original metadata container. Re-encoding sets orientation to upright.

How to convert

  1. 1. Add images

JPG, PNG, and WebP. Drop a folder if you are shrinking a whole export. HEIC belongs on the HEIC pages first; this compressor does not decode it.

  2. 2. Pick a format and a quality

Same format is the default. A PNG of a photo usually gets smaller as a JPG or WebP. Quality 85 is the starting point. Resize when pixels, not compression, are the problem.

  3. 3. Compare and download

Each row shows the new size and whether it is smaller or larger. Keep the result only if it helped. One file downloads directly; several become a ZIP.

Questions

Does compressing an image upload it?

No. The file is re-encoded in a Web Worker. Nothing is posted to a server. That also means we cannot beat a desktop encoder we did not ship, and the page does not pretend otherwise.

Why did my PNG not get smaller?

PNG is lossless. Drawing it again as PNG often changes little, and can grow. Switch the format to JPG or WebP, or set a smaller max width. The percent on the row is the honest result, including when the file gets larger.

What does quality 85 mean?

It is the encoder's quality hint, on a 1–100 scale, not a promise of 85% of the original bytes. JPG and WebP use it. PNG ignores it because PNG does not have a JPEG-style quality step.

Will this remove the location from a photo?

Yes, unless you choose Keep. The default is Strip GPS. If latitude and longitude are present you will see Location data found before you convert. Strip all removes the other tags we would have copied.

Can I hit a target size, such as under 500 KB?

Not automatically in this version. The estimate and the quality slider are there so you can try a setting, read the real size, and retry. A target-size search is a later feature and is not hidden behind an account.

Is there a watermark or a daily limit?

No watermark, no sign-up, and no daily cap. The soft warning is only for very large files that may exhaust the tab's memory.
