Each file is fitted on its own. JPG and WebP try a lower quality first. PNG is made smaller, because it has no quality step.

How to convert

  1. 1. Add the JPG files

Drop one JPG, several, or a folder. JPEG and JPG are the same format on this page.

  2. 2. Set the quality

Quality starts at 85, and WebP is already selected. Lower it when the file still needs to shrink. PNG is there if a program you use cannot open WebP.

  3. 3. Download the WebP

One file downloads as a WebP. Several files download as a ZIP built on this device.

Questions

Will the WebP be smaller than the JPG?

Often, at quality 85. Not always. A JPG that is already very small may not shrink. The row shows the real size after the run, including when the file gets larger.

Does JPG to WebP upload the photo?

No. The browser decodes the JPG and encodes WebP here. The header stays at 0 bytes uploaded.

Can I convert a PNG on this page?

This page accepts JPG. Use PNG to WebP when the file is a PNG and you want to keep see-through areas.

Will every program open a WebP?

Current browsers will. Some older office apps and printers still want a JPG. Keep the original when you need that, or switch the format option to JPG.
