Compress PDF

Free, with no daily limit. Make a PDF smaller on this device. Each page is saved as a JPEG picture inside a new PDF. Scans and photos usually shrink. A small text PDF often does not, and the words will not be selectable afterward. This is lighter than a server compressor. Nothing is uploaded.

Drop files here

Drop one PDF. It is not uploaded.

Lower quality makes a smaller file and a softer picture. Words in the new PDF cannot be selected.

How to convert

  1. 1. Add one PDF

    It stays on this device.

  2. 2. Pick a quality

60 is the start. Lower is smaller and softer. Higher stays closer to the original and may not shrink a text file.

  3. 3. Read the result

If the new file is not smaller, the page says so. Keep the original in that case.

Questions

Is this as strong as an online compressor?

No. Those tools often use a server encoder such as Ghostscript, and they upload the file to do it. This page never uploads the PDF. It photographs each page as a JPEG and builds a new PDF. Expect less shrinkage, especially on text.

Will the text still be selectable?

No. The new pages are pictures. If you need to copy the words, keep the original file.

Why did the file get bigger?

A short text PDF is already compact. Turning it into pictures adds weight. The note under the result tells you when that happens.

Are my files uploaded to squeeze them?

No. There is no server step and no Ghostscript on this site.
