How to convert

  1. 1. Add the JPG files

    Drop them, paste, or choose files. The queue estimates the PNG size before you convert.

  2. 2. Leave the pixels, or resize

    PNG is already selected, and PNG ignores the quality slider. Set a max width and height if the PNG would otherwise be huge.

  3. 3. Download the PNG

    One JPG becomes one PNG. Several become a ZIP. Expect a larger file than the JPG when the picture is a photo.

Questions

Why is the PNG bigger than the JPG?

JPG throws away detail to stay small. PNG stores the decoded pixels without that extra loss. That is useful for editing. It is a poor way to email a photo album. Use JPG to WebP when the goal is a smaller file.

Will the PNG suddenly have a transparent background?

No. A JPG has no see-through pixels to keep. White, sky, and studio backdrops stay painted in.

Does this upload the JPG?

No. Encoding happens in this browser. The privacy page shows how to confirm that in the network list.

Is text in a screenshot a good fit?

Yes. PNG keeps hard edges that JPG softens. For a photo, the file will usually grow, and WebP or a compressed JPG is the smaller choice.
